about

I found this song on Margaret Stewart’s album Togidh mi mo Sheolta (Along The Road Less Travelled) where she sings it with Allan Henderson accompanying on the piano. After exploring several versions of it in the Tobar an Dualchais archives I made an arrangement that compares a few of them. The first round of the melody comes from Margaret Stewart’s singing of it, the second round from Morag MacLean and the third (in the low octave) from Finlay MacNeill. In spite of the fairly distinct variations in their versions, all three of these singers are either from the Isle of Lewis or spent a great deal of time there. The final round of the melody is my own interpretation.
